The Sandwich Christmas parade

The small town of Sandwich in Kent is regarded as one of the best preserved medieval towns in the UK. It has few major high street branded shops, instead it has lots of small shops that sell everything you need, there is a small 1930’s cinema called the Empire that has one screen, a traditional hardware shop that is an Aladins cave of everything in the DIY, homeware & ironmongery dept,  there is a Thursday market in the town square and a mix of little shops to lose yourself in.

The town has many themed events during the year and they are a great day out that complements any visit, November 25th is just such an event with craft stalls from 10am, live music from 3pm, an oompah band at 5pm and the Christmas Parade at 6pm

Local places to visit are Salutation House & Gardens, Reculver Roman fort, the harbour for boat trips and if you have a head for heights I recommend a visit to St Peters Church Tower, the views are stunning and its nice to see the working parts of a bell tower.

The town has a good selection of places to eat from fish & chips to good gastro pubs with lunchtime options for a coffee & cake, though to my mind there should be a sandwich named after the town, sort of a sandwich sandwich. There seems to be an almost comical nature to shops and places in sandwich as they have dual meanings such as the sandwich sausage shop and the sandwich parcel delivery depot or No name street which has the No name bistro.

What strikes you as you wander round the streets and town is that it is nicely kept, there is little graffiti, litter or ill kept buildings, it is a slower pace of life and a step back in time. What is very good is that it is 11 minutes by car from Brambles B&B in Eythorne which is also well kept with good quality food. I canot promise the Sandwich Sandwich but I can offer the Brambles cinnamon orange pancake stack for breakfast that I have been developing , it looks and tastes a bit naughty but it is low fat, I use fresh fruit in it and you can show off at breakfast by ordering it.

Recent statistics from Trip advisor indicate that customer satisfaction is 10% better with B&B’s than Hotels, this is because a B&B’s like ours only have 4 guests at any time so you are our focus and we tailor our approach to fit in with the guest needs.
